Georgia’s Minister of Health gets behind MMM18

Dr Dali Trapaidze ,  MMM18 country lead shares their positive start in Georgia.

The hypertension prevalence index in the adult population of Georgia is 37.7% (STEPS 2016). High blood pressure is, together with coughing, the most frequent cause of using medical services at the primary healthcare level and constitutes 60 % within the cardiovacscular morbidity structure.

MMM18 Georgia began on 7 May with the conference by the Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs, Dr. David Sergeenko. At this event, the Government confirmed that arterial hypertension, as a main risk factor of CVDs, is the main health priority of the country. In his welcoming speech Professor Bezhan Tsinamdzgvrishvili, the President of Georgian Society of Hypertension outlined the importance of MMM 17 and the 2018 campaign planned activities

165 sites are now open  in the country and the campaign is set to finish  on 10 June, within the Lisi Lake area, Tbilisi.

As in 2017, screening activity includes educational intervention and information materials dissemination.
